Diploma in Optometry
Optometry is a health care profession which is concerned with the health of the eyes and related structures. Optometry includes the study of the examination, diagnosis and treatment of eyes, especially related to visual, optical symptoms, refractive errors and their correction, using lenses and other optical aids. This programme also covers the study of vision screening (eye testing), diagnosis of visual problems, orthopedics and vision training, optometrist counseling of patients with partial sight, colour blindness and hereditary vision defects, and designing and fitting of spectacles, contact lens and low vision aids.
Optometry is a primary eye care profession. As an optometrist, you will help evaluate a person’s vision and help him find the right spectacles, contact lenses and other optical aids. Apart from this, you can also perform specialized tests to diagnose ocular diseases. The growing need for well-trained and technically sound optometrists in India and abroad makes this course a promising one. As an optometrist, you will find job opportunities with eye hospitals, optical chains and also in leading multinational optical / contact lens companies.
The Advanced Diploma in Optometry from Vasan Institute of Ophthalmology & Research is a 2 year programme with lectures, hands-on tutorials and a 4-month internship under the guidance of a well-qualified faculty.
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry & Biology/Mathematics as compulsory subjects, having obtained minimum 50% marks in the above subjects taken together.
